Jim was born September 16, 1930 in Steubenville, Ohio to the late Stanley James Arim and Mary Elizabeth Brashear Arim. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from June 1948 to May 1953 and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1989 he retired from Pelton & Crane, having previously worked at Wheeling Steel, Titanium Metals Corporation, and Teledyne Titanium.
Living in Charlotte since 1967, Jim was a longtime member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church and later, the Chipley Class at Providence United Methodist Church.
After a 4-month romance, Jim married Doris Crosby in 1952, and in their 70-year marriage they welcomed five children, eleven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Jim and Doris enjoyed many years of square dancing with the Square Wheelers Dance Club. Other of Jim’s interests included taking various bus tours throughout the United States and Canada with Doris, reading, tinkering around the house, and playing card games with family and friends.
Jim will be remembered as a kind, caring man who enjoyed the simple things in life. One of his favorite things was regaling friends and family with stories of his time in the Marines.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his sister, Mary Lou Habash, and his granddaughter Camryn Artz.
He is survived by his wife Doris; son Michael (Deborah) and daughters Teresa Fesmire (John), Patricia Reeder (Robert), Nancy Harvey (Daniel) and Mary Ann Artz (Russell); grandchildren Andrew Wright, Logan Wright (Tiffany), Jason Arim, Jordan Arim, Suzanne Inabinet (Jimmy), Richard Harvey, Kelley Templeton (John), Andrew Artz, Holden Artz, and Cailyn Artz; great grandchildren Trenton Harvey, Odin Templeton, Trevor Wright, Tyler Wright, and J.R.
