Hazel Marie Hoover, 94 passed away on April 24, 2013 at the Hospice Home of Burlington, NC, after several months of failing health. Hazel was born in High Point, NC, August 18, 1918, the daughter of James Maude Hoover and Carrie Belle Pierce. She attended schools in High Point, NC, Denton, NC, and Washington DC. After graduation she worked in Washington DC as a legal assistant and in civil service with the US Navy during WWII. She returned to Denton, NC, to teach business at the local high school. While teachings she earned a B.S. and M.A. Degree from Appalachian State University. In 1961 she taught high school at a US Army base in Germany and travelled extensively in Europe. She then began a long high school teaching career in Berlin, MD, from 1963 to 1986. She retired to Charlotte, NC where she enjoyed living next to her brother Melvin Hoover, and his wife, Marjorie. In 2008 she moved to Cedar Ridge Retirement Center in, Burlington, NC, to be near her family members in her later years. Hazel is remembered as a devoted teacher and faithful friend. Together with her parents she was preceded in death, by 2 brothers and her sister. She is survived by 3 nieces, Pat Bollinger of Roswell, GA, Penny Davis of Elon, NC, and Pamela Baker of Gibsonville, NC. A graveside service was held at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC, 28212, on April 27th. Arrangements entrusted by McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park.
