Grace Garris

Grace McCorkle Garris went home to be with the Lord on March 1, 2017. She was born in Monroe, NC on September 14, 1930. Grace was the beloved wife of 47-1/2 years to her late husband, James W. Garris who passed away on February 17, 1999. She is survived by her two sons, James Perry Garris and his wife, Libby and Glenn Dale Garris and his wife, Susan, all of Charlotte.; three grandchildren, James Michael Garris and his wife Monica of Lillington, NC; Leslie Garris Scott and her husband Nathan of Navarre, FL and James Perry Garris Jr. of Salisbury, NC; and three great-grandchildren, Aaron and Rylan Garris of Lillington, NC and Rebecca Scott of Navarre, FL. Grace is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.B. McCorkle; her four brothers, Herman McCorkle, Earl McCorkle, Ralph McCorkle and Ray McCorkle and her sister, Doris M. Pressley. She led an active life at her church, Trinity Baptist on Arrowood Road in Charlotte and was also a member of the Eastern Star, Steele Creek Chapter #339. She enjoyed working in both, having served as past matron of the Star and Mother Advisor of the Rainbow Girls and several offices in her church. Grace retired from Piedmont Natural Gas Co. on January 1, 1993 after working there for over 30 years. A visitation will be held on Monday March 6, 2017 from 11:00 am until noon at the Mausoleum at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC with a service following at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in memory of Grace's life to Trinity Baptist Church 2009 W. Arrowood Road, Charlotte,NC 28217. Arrangements under the direction of McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, Charlotte, NC.
