George was born in Washington, D.C. three months early, while his parents were on a trip. He was brought back to Durham, NC at 3 months old, where he grew up with his mother and his brother. He graduated in 1969 from N.C. State as a Civil Engineer. He went on to start and run his own consulting firm for nearly 20 years. He worked every day until his last, and was very happy to help anyone in need. George loved the mountains, spending time with family and any sort of project around the house.
George is survived by his brother, Joseph; his daughter, Heather McGee Thornton (Brad); his son, Brian McGee (Ashley); and his grandchildren, Anna Catherine, Peter, Patrick and Ozzy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
