Gail Maurer Busse (83) of Charlotte passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, surrounded by family at her home. She was born September 12, 1941, in Williamsville, NY to the late Dorothy and John Ward Maurer. She thrived in Williamsville and loved being a Williamsville South High School cheerleader. She attended Rosary Hill College and graduated with a degree in Secondary Education. She was proud of her career as a high school history teacher and the support she provided her students day in and day out, especially on the day of the President John F. Kennedy assassination.
Gail was a proud homemaker and enjoyed entertaining her family and friends. Her love was displayed in the amazing meals and table settings she would create to enjoy time with others. She cared deeply for her children and grandchildren, who called her ‘Gigi.’ “Cooking with Gigi” was a summer staple and a source of many fond memories for her grandchildren. In taking with her culinary interests, Gail was a weekly contributor to the St. Matthew Muffin Ministry.
Gail clearly loved her husband, William (Bill) Busse. Bill was her soulmate and their years together living in Ft. Myers, Florida were among her most treasured times, playing golf and swimming. She would say that she cherished her five-year honeymoon in their beautiful home in Florida. Gail and Bill moved back to Charlotte in 2001 to enjoy time with family and friends. Gail was an avid 9-holer and always an amazing friend, as she was an excellent listener and could be counted on to keep a secret ‘in the vault’ as she would say.
Gail is survived by her loving husband of nearly thirty years, Bill; her children John Altman (Ally), Bill Busse (Charlotte) and Ann Cummings (Patrick); grandchildren Audrey, Austin, Chelsea, and Leah. She is also survived by her sister Joan Maurer Fry of Indianapolis, Indiana.
The family will receive friends starting at 10 am on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at St. Matthew Catholic Church located at 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway in Charlotte. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11am. Private burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gail’s name to St. Matthew Catholic Church (www.stmatthewcatholic.org).
Condolences may be left for the family at www.McEwenPinevilleChapel.com.
