Evelyn Deal Shepherd

Evelyn Collette Deal Blackburn Shepherd of Charlotte, NC , passed away peacefully on November 18, 2014 at White Oak Manor. She was born on July 3, 1931 in Belmont, NC to Catherine Gossett and Oscar Deal. Collette was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eli Shepherd; daughter, Kathy Abernathy; brothers, Don and Pete Deal; and sister, Lois Swinson;. Collette was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will forever be in our hearts. She was passionate about all things Elvis, including a room in her home enshrined with 50 years of Elvis momentos. She loved going to see her favorite Elvis impersonator, Rick Alviti, who lovingly referred to her as “Wild Woman”. Collette is survived by her daughters, Vicky Maynor and husband, Randall and Dusty McCorkle and husband, Homer; grandchildren, Candy Thomas (Ed), Shea Turman, Amber Carpenter (Scott), Brian Abernathy (Mandy), Stacey Richardson (Randal); seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family will receive friends at McEwen Funeral Services, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC, on Saturday, November 22, from 11:30-1:00. A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. with interment in Sharon Memorial Park. Memorial may be made to Alzheimer’s, Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte region. The family would like to express sincere gratitude and thanks to Hospice and the staff at Whit Oak Manor.
