Eva was born on July 27, 1932 in Rockingham, NC, daughter of the late James Frank Lassiter and Agnes Saunders Lassiter. She graduated from Thomasboro High School in Charlotte and worked for many years with her husband in his accounting business.
Eva was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a devoted and faithful Christian who attended Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church for over 30 years. She was active in her circle and regularly assisted the church secretary. One of her greatest loves was spending time at her beach house. She also loved reading, puzzles and gardening.
The last two years of her life were spent at Wilora Lake Lodge where she developed many friendships, She loved volunteering in the market at Wilora Lake. The family would like to say a special thank you to all the staff and residents at Wilora Lake Lodge for making her last years so fulfilling and rewarding.
Preceding her in death was her husband and best friend of 44 years, Richard Clay Helms. Surviving are her three daughters and son in laws, Pam and Mark Novasad of Concord, NC, Karen and Ronnie Shaffer of Mint Hill, NC and Annette and Russell Honeycutt of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are her six grandchildren, Ashley and Todd Novasad, Matthew and Cameron Shaffer and Trevor and Taylor Honeycutt as well as her sisters, Rachel Vinesett of Fort Mill, SC and Evelyn Hagler and sister in law, Betty Bauguess and brother in law, Bill Helms, both of Monroe, NC.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at CMC - Mercy for their superior care of and compassion for Mom during her illness. Their love and support for the family was greatly appreciated.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 6, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the McEwen Funeral Service - Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 7, 2011 at Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church, 6740 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC. The Reverend Dr. Ron Tippens will officiate. Graveside service will immediately follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, Charlotte, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church, 6740 Albemarle Rd, Charlotte, NC 28212.
