CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Ethel Safrit Caudle, 93, was freed from the fog of dementia to perfectly worship her Lord and Savior in heaven on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Elmcroft of Little Avenue in Charlotte. She was born December 2, 1922, in Salisbury, NC, the oldest child of the late Henderson Matthew Safrit and Lillie Wagoner Safrit. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Richard Hoyle Caudle, and also her twin brothers, Ray and Glen Safrit. Ethel moved to Winston-Salem with her parents in 1930 at the age of 8. She graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem where she served as her senior class secretary. She and Richard were married in 1948 and remained in Winston-Salem until 1985 when they moved to Cape Carteret, NC, after Richard’s retirement. There they enjoyed many happy years together playing golf and participating in social activities with friends at Star Hill Golf Club. Ethel had a sweet, pleasant and loving personality that still shined through the fog of her severe dementia. She dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother and a true and dependable friend to many, giving far more than she ever received. She and Richard were active members of Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church in Atlantic Beach, NC. Survivors include her son, Richard Caudle (Lee); daughter, Susan Hunt (Ken); and grandchildren, Matt Caudle, Sharon Caudle and Joe Hunt. The family would like to thank the staff at Elmcroft of Little Avenue for the loving care they provided for 27 months. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016, at Harrison United Methodist Church, 15008 Lancaster Hwy, Pineville, NC. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
