Elizabeth Grace Burton

Elizabeth Grace “Gracie” Burton of Charlotte, North Carolina passed from this world on March 10, 2023 surrounded by her family and friends. Gracie was proud to be Carolina Blue Scholar, assured admit to Kenan-Flagler Business School, and Honors Carolina Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In her free time she was active in her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, and was recently elected as Director of Sisterhood. Gracie loved her family, friends, and college experience. In her last act of grace, she elected to be an organ and tissue donor so that others may live.

Gracie is survived by her loving mother, Lisa Burton of Charlotte, North Carolina, one uncle Jim Burton (Philip) of Lexington, Kentucky, her grandmother Arlene Burton of Mount Sterling, Kentucky, and her grandmother and grandfather James and Delores Burton of Charlotte, North Carolina. She is also survived by two great aunts, Susie Smither of Lexington, Kentucky with whom she loved to travel with and Phillis Gilvin of Mount Sterling, Kentucky. She also leaves behind her life-long best friend Sydney Morrison and her family Melissa Kersey (a bonus mom to Gracie), Eric Kersey (a bonus dad to Gracie), Makayla Kersey , Zayden Kersey, and Lorry Mamer (Gracie’s bonus grandmother) along with Lisa’s best friend Takeema Evans (another bonus mom to Gracie) and her son Timothy Hill.

The family is planning a private ceremony to celebrate Gracie’s life, and requests that in lieu of flowers any gifts be made in Gracie’s honor to the Humane Society of Charlotte, where Gracie adopted her beloved cat, Gizmo Burton.
