Edith Lynn Anderson came into this earth on December 14, 1949 to her parents, Florence Mable Edwards and Eddie Edwards to whom she will rejoin in Heaven. She was born at Sydenham Hospital in Harlem, New York, which is now a residential building for senior citizens. She went to P.S. 194 and P.S. 170 for the Gifted for she was, gifted! She went to Tetard JHS and Roosevelt High School, earning her HS Diploma at night, at Benjamin Franklin HS.
She left this earth on Christmas Day of 2020. Edith, whom we called "Edie", loved her family. She was also a lover of books, movies, fine cuisine and traveling. She traveled all over the world by land or by sea with her friends, her family, coworkers, and enjoyed doing so. All who knew Edie - loved Edie! She had a sweet spirit and easy-going energy about her. She loved trivia, crossword puzzles and was always the first to call the family on their birthdays. She had a love for word games, card games, painting, and was sweetly competitive.
Edie worked for the U.S. Postal System for many years and then went on to work for the government - The Social Security Administration - where she worked up the ranks for many years until she retired. She became a homeowner and settled her family in Queens, NY. She was also an Eastern Star for many years and worked hard and long hours to afford herself and family a fine lifestyle, one she was happy with. After she retired, about ten or more years ago, she moved to Charlotte, NC and built a life of leisure, faith, family, and a Christian ministry in the South. Edie loved the south. She was happy to be out of New York. She feared highway driving so most likely she would take the street!
While in Charlotte, she along with her family, became members of the Church of the Nazarene where she served the Lord by assisting in the food pantry, at times helping with the children. She loved the songs and singing along with the choir!
While in New York, Edie served as usher and nurse at LaGree Baptist Church for many years, where she was baptized as a child.
Edie was a Christian Woman and will join her younger sister, Gay, and her parents in Heaven, whom she is predeceased by. The family thanks all your contributions of sorrow and sympathy and wishes for a healthy and blessed New Year.
After a short illness, she departed this earth in her full mental capacity. She leaves to mourn and carry on the torch - her youngest sibling - sister, Judy Edwards; her children - two daughters, Robin ONiese Burton Birksdale and Kitt Alexis Burton; one son, Nakia Anthony Bryant and daughter-in-law, Shamik Bryant. She also leaves behind five grandchildren: grandson Bruce Barksdale; granddaughters Alexis Chanel Barksdale, Destiny Bryant, April Andrea Chestnut and Lindsay Burton; two great-granddaughters, Kennedy Barksdale and Me'Kenzie Daley; two children who were like her own, Chris Harrison and Tina Vickers; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
