Dorothy was born on July 22 1925 to Vernon and Julia Johnson in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. She was the eldest of her five siblings and spoke fondly of her childhood.
As a young woman became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she was an active member all her life. She always enjoyed Relief Society and the sisters she bonded with there.
Dorothy spent time working for Duke Power, the McLean Trucking Company and in the banking industry.
Dorothy would go on to meet her beloved husband Charles ‘Chuck’ Richard Boles. They were sealed together for time and all eternity in the Washington, D.C. Temple. Chuck and Dorothy had two children Karen and David.
Dorothy was always an advocate for disabled people and spent much of her adult life championing for the inclusion and education of children with disabilities. Her son David would be her inspiration for this important work. She loved him dearly and cared for him til the end of her life.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Charles Boles and her sisters Evelyn, Geraldine, Helen and Betty. She is survived by her children Karen (Mark) Fulton and David Boles; her grandchildren Andrew Fulton and McKenna (Francis) Savaiinaea and her great-grandchildren Lillian Fulton and Gideon Savaiinaea.
Visitation for Dorothy will be held Saturday, March 5, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. A funeral service will follow at 12pm. Interment will take place at Sharon Memorial Park.
