Funeral services will be held 1:45pm, Sunday, June 19 at Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 4000 N. Sharon Amity Rd., in Charlotte, North Carolina with Pastor John Bremer officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 1:00pm to 1:30pm before the service at the church.
Dr. Simpson, a graduate of Hartsell High School in Concord, was awarded his B.A. degree from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee in 1953. He received an honorary doctorate from the same university in 1991. Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, awarded him a Masters of Divinity in 1956.
For over 30 years, Dr. Simpson pastored Nazarene congregations in Florida, Indiana, Kansas and Ohio. In 1985 he was elected Superintendent of the North Carolina District of the Church of the Nazarene and moved to Charlotte.
Dr. Simpson was active in his denomination, serving as a member of the General Board in Kansas City, a trustee on the board of Trevecca Nazarene University and a trustee on the board of Nazarene Theological Seminary. He led work and witness trips to Barbados, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, Antigua, Brazil and Portugal.
Dr. Simpson met his wife, Frances Nichols at college in Nashville, Tennessee. They were married in 1952 and served together 60 years. A son, Mark, lives with his wife Lori in Olathe, Kansas. Daughter, Karen Pisano and husband Al live in Summerville, South Carolina. Grandpa dearly loved his five grandchildren, Erin, Emily, David, Brittany and Jacob; also great-granddaughters, Abby, Harper, Hazel, Melody, Emilia and Julianna. He is also survived by sisters, Dot Lambert and Sybil Hatley and his brother Larry.
Dr. Simpson enjoyed gardening, reading, playing golf and visiting with family and friends.
