Only son of Casper Watson Fuller and Mary Gladys Thompson, Don was born on March 19, 1928 in Charlotte. Upon high school graduation, Don entered the US Navy where he proudly served our country during WWII. He completed US Naval Submarine School at the US Navy base in New London, CT. After serving aboard the USS Scabbard Fish, Don was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class and merited the WWII Victory Medal.
Don attended Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC before he discovered his career in plumbing/heavy equipment sales. During this time, he gained his small aircraft pilot’s license.
Married for more than sixty years, Gladys Roselyn Miller and Don raised their children Don, Jr and Carol Ann in Charlotte. Don and “Rose” spent many cherished times traveling to Amsterdam, Ireland, Germany and other European countries.
Don’s passion for golf – playing and watching – was rewarded each year by his attendance at The Masters. He attended the tournament for many years and looked forward to the first week in April where he would sit amongst the azaleas with other golf patrons at a tradition unlike any other.
A journey of self-discovery and enlightenment was the path Don was on as he was voted in as a Freemason. As the oldest fraternal organization in the world, striving for a deeper connection with others and a commitment to service was very important.
After retirement, Don worked at several pro shops and provided cart maintenance at many of the area golf courses in the Charlotte area until the age of 88.
At the age of 90, Don married Jane Dixon in February 2018 and celebrated their union by enjoying a cruise to Turks & Caicos. Jane brought a beautiful light into his life until she left this earth.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, wife “Rose”, son Donald Jr, grandson Donald III and wife, Jane.
Left to mourn in his loss includes daughter Carol Ritter, grandchildren Elizabeth Fuller Knox and Andrew Charles Ritter and sister Sharon E Fuller Hensley.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled at 11am on Saturday, January 14, 2023 in the Magnolia Chapel at Matthews Glen Retirement Community located at 733 Pavilion View Drive in Matthews. Chaplain Matthew Dinkins will officiate.
