She was the youngest of 6 siblings, born July 6, 1945, in Evansville, Indiana to the late William Franklin Baker and Alma Thomas Baker. She was proceeded in death by her parents and siblings, Frank Baker Jr., Ronnie Baker, Richard Baker, Kenny Baker, and Nancy (Baker) Fulk.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Michael Ray Blackburn of Matthews, NC and their children, Anthony Blackburn (Glenda), Harrisburg, NC, Deanna Blackburn, Wingate, NC, and William Blackburn (Shannon), Unionville, NC, in addition to 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
She had a love and passion for helping mentally handicapped children and happily served them for over 26 years at Western Union Elementary School in the Exceptional Children’s department. After retiring, she enjoyed crafts, painting, and preserving family memories through scrapbooking. She continued to serve in many capacities with her church family at Matthews Presbyterian. Her second passion came with some conflict, a house divided, because she was a huge NC State fan while her husband is an avid UNC Tarheel fan! This made for some good times during rival games. Her motto, “Go Pack!” No matter the outcome, their favorite song, “I Love How You Love Me”, always brought them back together.
Psalm 23:1-6
Please join us in celebrating her life on Monday April 29, 2:30pm at Matthews Presbyterian Church, 207 W John Street, Matthews, NC 28105. Interment will be a private family service at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill, NC.
