Mr. Thompson, age 87, or Charlotte, NC, went to be with the Lord on April 13, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was a former member of Grace Methodist Church, and currently a member of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church.
He was born November 26, 1926, in Lexington County, SC, to the late David W. Thompson and Marie Porter Thompson. He was a WWII US Navy veteran and a Shriner. He was an executive for 39 years with State Farm Insurance Companies. For most of those years he served as Agency Director for North Carolina. He lived for many years on Lake Wylie, and enjoyed boating and fishing. He taught three generations of his family how to water ski and fish. He loved spending time at his beach home at Garden City, SC. He is loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Dave is survived by his daughter Barbara T. Neal and husband Bill; and his son David Wesley Thompson III (Kip) and wife Tamara; grandchildren, Laura Frye and husband Wes; Kevin Neal; Todd Neal and wife Jenny; Brooke Fulton; Micah Keith and husband Rob; and Kate Legg and husband William; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Justin, Will, Emily, Jake, John Browder, Luke, Harper, Knox, Cannon and Miles. He is also survived by his sister, Romell Jones, of West Columbia, SC.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Loretta Hunt Thompson and his brothers Monroe Thompson, Thurman Thompson, and Willis Thompson.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the caregivers of Care Haven of Charlotte for the outstanding and compassionate care they provided for Dave and his family.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 16, 2014, in the Fellowship Hall of the Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, 7407 Steele Creek Rd, Charlotte, NC 28217. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation, at 2:00pm, at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. Jeff Pinkston and Rev. Valerie Phillips officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
