Tim proudly served his country as a United States Marine for four years, serving during the Beirut, Lebanon crisis. He went on to graduate from Basic Law Enforcement Training at Mitchell Community College. He worked as a Jailer, Bailiff, Deputy and School Resource Officer for Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. He then went on to work as Airport Police for Charlotte Douglas International Airport and then Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. He would retire from The City of Charlotte in 2016 with 30 years of Law Enforcement service. Most recently, he served as a Police Officer with Allied Universal at Central Piedmont Community College Levine campus.
Tim loved working with youth interested in the law enforcement field. While with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office he worked with both D.A.R.E and the Explorers programs.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Tim was also a PADI trained Rescue Scuba Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver and loved the ocean.
Hunting was one of Tim’s true passions and most fall days you could find him up a tree or in a ground blind looking for that Big Buck!
Tim is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lynne Strickland of Charlotte, NC; father, Jerry W Strickland, Sr. of Lowell, NC; brother, Earl Strickland (Linda) of Clover, SC; sister, Rhonda Davis of Camp Stewart, GA; brother, Jerry W. Strickland, Jr. (Pam) of Shelby, NC; sister, Crystal Sutton (Nate)of Rock Hill, SC; father-in-law, Tommy Burgess of Brevard, NC; brother-in-law, Marty Burgess (Laura)of Etowah, NC; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved.
A memorial service to celebrate Tim’s life will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at McEwen – Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 am to 11:50 am.
