Born November 19, 1939 in Charlotte, he was the son of thehttps://admin.mem.com/sso/admin/default.aspx late James Bruce Pollock and Evelyn Hill Pollock. After graduating from high school in Franklin, NC where he was co-captain of the Franklin High football team, David attended N. C. State. The next year he received a scholarship and transferred to the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill to complete his degree in Business Administration.
While visiting friends from Franklin at Women's College in Greensboro in 1958, he met his future wife, Frances Ferrell Pollock. David and Frances were married the day before David graduated from Chapel Hill in 1961. He then sent Frances through her senior year and graduate school.
David began a career in insurance that grew from being an insurance agent to having his own agency and then becoming a Regional Director of several states. He was named Regional Director of the Year more than once at different companies. David distinguished himself as being highly knowledgeable and ethical and earned the designations of CLU and ChFC. He enjoyed being a mentor to young agents, teaching continuing education classes, and attending conventions across the US and in other countries.
David enjoyed watching sports and followed the Carolina Panthers in football and the UNC Tar Heels in football and basketball. He particularly enjoyed watching his grandsons play soccer, basketball, and baseball and perform in chorus groups and musicals.
David loved his children, Alison, Lauren and Michael. He paid for their education, and told them that they could follow any career they desired. His goal was to give each a college education without having to work during the school year and to graduate without any debt. They all appreciate that gift.
After retiring, David enjoyed attending Harrison United Methodist Church where he made new friends in the Discussion Class and became part of the Romeos, the men’s service group. He applied his gift of planning trips for family summer vacations to retirement, and he and Frances enjoyed traveling both in the US and internationally.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Frances Ferrell Pollock, of Charlotte; daughters, Alison Michelle Ingersoll (Shaun) of Raleigh, NC and Lauren Virginia Linick (Aaron) of Charlotte; son, Michael David Pollock (Kimberly) of Clemmons, NC; sister, Virginia Pollock Howell of Carrollton, GA; brothers-in-law, Joseph Stevens Ferrell and Joseph Peter Fama of Chapel Hill, NC; grandsons, Zachary Aaron Linick of Charlotte, NC and Christopher Stevens Linick of Raleigh, NC; and granddaughter, Chelsea Pollock Martinez (Abel) of Clemmons, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harrison United Methodist Church.
