Born December 5, 1957, in Charlotte, NC, to the late Joseph Patton and late Margaretta Vine Patton, David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and colleague.
A Charlotte native, David graduated from Olympic High School and furthered his education at the University of North Carolina Charlotte where he earned degrees in Business Administration and Accounting. He began his career at Duke Energy and spent over 35 years with the company working in various positions before retiring in 2016 to go into consulting. David was always described as a hard worker who enjoyed new challenges in his professional career this led him to take a position with Jeld-Wyn, where he served as a Senior Accountant until his passing.
A strong believer in the power of community, David gave back to many organizations throughout his life. He is remembered by his friends for his tireless work to support others, often through the little things or by taking on administrative duties behind the scenes. He was a lifelong blood donor with the American Red Cross and One Blood. He gave back to St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, the church he grew up and was married in, by serving as a Sunday School teacher and on several administrative committees. David loved dogs and his home was never complete without a family dog, or two, or three. David supported the Charlotte Dog Training Club where he served as an instructor and Board president. Additionally, David served as both President and Treasurer for his neighborhood HOA.
Always one to learn new things, David enjoyed a variety of hobbies over the years including running, biking, yoga, kayaking, and most recently golf. David loved to travel, spending time at the beach and mountains and going on international adventures with his family. Avid card and board game enthusiasts, David and Karen also loved hosting friends at their home for game nights.
The true joy of David’s life was his family and friends. He adored his wife Karen Elliott, whom he married in 1982 in Charlotte. He was also a devoted father and grandfather, who never missed a school or sporting event. He supported his girls in every endeavor, while never putting pressure on them. David was so proud of his daughters and the women they grew into.
David is survived by his wife of 42 years, Karen; two children, Caitlin Patton Stanley (Will) of Charlotte, Devon Patton Webster (Garrett) of Virginia Beach; and two beloved grandboys, Rowan and Levi Webster; as well as his brother, Tom Patton (Glenda) of Charlotte, nieces and nephew, Katie Patton (Cris), Libby Patton (Griffin), and Josh Patton (Jessica).
A memorial service to celebrate David’s life will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 29th, 2025 at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 1901 Archdale Drive, Charlotte, NC, 28210. The family will receive friends following the service.
