David Allen Helms

David Allen Helms, 83, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Born in Charlotte in 1939, David was one of 10 children of the late Lester Helms Sr. and Elizabeth Kindley. Having lived most of his life in Mt. Holly, David was preceded in death by wife, Doris Baldwin Helms in 1981, wife, Frances Walls Helms in 2005, siblings, and granddaughter, Laura Bolton.

David retired from Owens-Illinois after 30 years of employment and enjoyed his time boating on Lake Norman, playing golf, bird watching, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Sylvia Helms Sweatman (Douglas), Debbie Helms Bolton (Frank) and Ladonn Helms Dixon (Steve Wilson); bonus sons, Jeff Walls and Mark Walls (Sunny); grandchildren, James Sweatman Jr. (Kristin), Brian Sweatman (Elizabeth), Joy Butler (Chuck), Frank Bolton Jr. (Cynthia), David Dixon, Chris Dixon, Katie Dixon, Tyler Walls, Marla Walls, and Lydia Walls; great grandchildren, Dillon Butler, Alayna Butler, McKenzie Bolton, Bailey Bolton, Gabrielle Sweatman, Callahan Sweatman, Evelyn Sweatman, Bryce Sweatman, Catherine Sweatman, Mason Dixon, Clayton Dixon, and Jaxon Dixon; and long-time friend, Charles Griggs (Lynn).

A funeral service will be held at the Forest Lawn West Cemetery, Community Mausoleum Chapel, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Entombment immediately following.
