David Carter Cable, age 95, died on November 13, 2014 after a brief illness. Mr. Cable was a native of Ridgewood, N.J., attended schools there and then Rutgers University. Following that, he did graduate work at Columbia University. He then enlisted in the Army Air Corps, earned his wings as a pilot, became a flight instructor, and was later appointed supervisor of Flight Training at his base in Lakeland, Florida. After the war, Mr. Cable joined the 3M Co. and progressed rapidly in its management. He was sent to England to start a new operation there, and worked in Europe for 23 years, becoming a Division Manager and a member of the Board of Directors. When his assignment was finished, he and three friends sailed his 50ft Ketch from England to West Palm Beach. He then retired and had been dividing his later years between a home in Napa, CA. and one in Osprey, FL. More recently, after the death of his beloved wife of 65 years, he moved to a retirement home in Charlotte, NC. to be near his daughter Anne. Mr. Cable is survived by three daughters; Anne Silver of Denver, N.C., Susan Upton of Colleyville, T.X., and Nancy Seering of Sherborn, MA.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday November 22 2014 at Aldersgate Chapel 3800 Shamrock Charlotte, NC 28215.
