Rock Hill, SC — Mr. Daryl Kirsten Brown, of Rock Hill, peacefully passed away Tuesday
at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte at the age of 59.
The son of Jon Hardeman and the late Helen Easley-Davis, Mr. Brown, originally
Alonzo Easley, was born in Atlanta, GA at Crawford-Long Hospital on September 22nd,
1965. A product of adoption, his earthly angels, the late Simon Leon Brown and Janie
Mae Brown (née Richardson), adopted him in the year 1967 and relocated him to his
hometown of Columbus, Georgia. There, he was a resident of Swann Street in the Willis
Plaza subdivision, and participated in a myriad of sports, youth activities and both civic
and social organizations throughout the South Columbus area. He was a 1983 graduate
of William H. Spencer High School and obtained his B.S. degree in Urban Planning and
Development from Alabama A&M University in 1988.
Daryl worked diligently throughout his life, having worked his first job at 12
years old, being an honorably discharged veteran of the US Army (1LT), a former police
officer, correctional officer, fireman and EMT within the Columbus Consolidated
Government and Georgia Department of Corrections, and also other roles, most notably
security at the managerial and corporate level. One of the pinnacles of Daryl’s life was
his career as a professional boxer, finishing said-career with a record of 26-3. With
boxing being one of his lifelong passions (including music, golf, cigars and reading), he
continued training, coaching and refereeing in professional boxing throughout the
remainder of his life. He was also a dedicated member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,
Inc., where he was initiated in the Delta Gamma Chapter in the spring of 1985.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Simon Leon and Janie Mae Brown, his
biological mother Helen Easley-Davis, and his dearest friends Kyle Stovall, Vincent
Kitchen, Leonard Wyatt, Sebastian Ingram, and Charles Middlebrooks.
Surviving his departure is his loving wife of 16 years, Radhia Magoma-Brown,
three sons, Kelsey Leon Brown, Malcolm Aziz McClenic and Jordan Akeem McClenic,
four sisters, Crystal Brown, Stacie Brown, Shawanda Martin and Cheryl Hardeman,
three brothers, Stanley Hardeman, Keith Hardeman and Bryant Walker, the Childs’
family, and a host of dear relatives, friends and acquaintances. Arrangements have been
entrusted with the McEwen Funeral Services at Sharon Park Memorial.
