Daniel Thomas Springer, 60, of Charlotte, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. He was a native Charlottean, born here on October 2, 1961 to Bonnie and Henry Springer as well as older sister Mandy. They were later joined by younger sister Kelley.
Dan attended Chantilly Elementary School, Piedmont Middle School and West Charlotte High School, where he graduated in 1980. Soon after graduation he started work in the automotive industry, a career path that he would follow, in various ways, throughout his life. While growing up, he was very active in Boy Scouts and the Youth Group at Cokesbury United Methodist Church. He was also very involved as a volunteer with UMAR, a UMC organization that promotes growth and inclusion for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Dan loved to go fishing and hunting with his dad and grandfathers and he shared that passion with his own children years later. He loved any sport that would get him in or on the water....and out in the sun....swimming, sailing, water volleyball, water skiing. He was an avid follower of the Grateful Dead.....a Dead Head....and took countless trips out of town to see them play. He was a huge fan of the North Carolina State Wolfpack, Dale Earnhardt, Sr, the Minnesota Vikings and the Baltimore Orioles.
Dan had a keen ability to bring fun and smiles to any occasion, with a sense of humor unlike any other. He liked a bit of mischief from time to time and he did not hesitate to tease and poke fun, but always in a way that let you know that you were loved. He was caring and gracious, generous and inclusive, and never, ever met a stranger.
Dan went by many names - Dan-O, Dan'l T, DT, Springer, the Silver Swami - but the name most important to him was 'Dad'. He was the father of two very special young men, sons for whom he could not be more proud. He cherished any time that he was able to spend with them and was beyond grateful for the two very best friends they had come to be.
Dan leaves behind his wife, Cynthia Rink Springer of Charlotte, sons Daniel Adam Springer (Lexi) of Hamlet, NC and Ryan Thomas Springer (Anika) of Chapel Hill, NC, mother Bonnie Mullinix Springer of Albemarle, NC, sisters Amanda Springer Hathcock (Jeff) of Huntersville, NC and Kelley Springer Adams (David) of Gastonia, NC, niece Candice Hathcock Stone (Shane Curenton), nephews Jonathan Hathcock and Garrett Hazard (Brianna), great nephew Mason Lane Curenton, as well as numerous special aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Myron Springer, maternal grandparents Thomas and Lucille Mullinix, paternal grandparents Henry and Emma Springer and step-grandmothers Deane Mullinix and Doris Springer.
A Celebration of Dan's Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 6701 Idlewild Road, Charlotte NC. Visitation will take place at 1:00 PM in the Sanctuary. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please consider donations to the National Alliance for Mental Illness (https://nami.org/Home) or UMAR (https://umarinfo.com/donate).
Dan was an unforgettable father, son, husband, brother and friend. We are devastated beyond words by this loss but we rejoice in his resurrection and final victory. We will love and miss him forever.
