Growing up Corey was very involved with Youth Groups at Good Shepard UMC. After graduating from Olympic High in 2011, he attended UNC Charlotte for Business Administration. Getting his degree was a top priority and we’re happy to announce Corey will be awarded his degree in the May 2017 Graduation Ceremonies from UNC Charlotte. While in school, Corey worked at 17th Street Distribution for two years. Corey managed to upkeep a fulfilling social life while balancing his job and school. In his free time he graciously supported his grandparents, Paul and Nelda. Corey found pride in his knowledge of global events and politics, which he researched extensively. Often his friends would ask him about different topics hoping for a brief explanation but receiving a lengthy lecture, or account, of Corey’s understanding and opinions on these matters.
Most of all Corey enjoyed spending time with his friends, putting forth extra effort to organize reunions and get togethers during holidays and breaks from school when everyone returned home to Charlotte. Second only to his love of friends and family was his love of the Carolina Panthers. He had several gameday routines during the 2015/16 winning season that he refused to break; including eating the same meal each game to wearing the same jersey. Corey was an amazing young man who left us too early. He had a huge heart, and even in death was able to help save the lives of others in his donation of organs. He answered prayers for other families who had been on donor lists.
Corey is survived by his mother Debra McDonald-Flynt, father Derek Flynt, sister Kathleen Flynt, grandparents Paul and Nelda McDonald, and Sol Flynt. A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Corey will be 2:30pm on Tuesday, February 7th at Good Shepard United Methodist Church, 13110 Moss Road, Charlotte, NC 28273. A grave side service will follow at the Good Shepard UMC-Zoar Campus, friends will be received following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Corey’s name to Good Shephard UMC Cemetery funds, 13110 Moss Road, Charlotte, NC 28273 or “LifeShare of the Carolinas” organ donation charity.
