The only child of Thomas Henry Elmore and Edna Narcissis Rhyne, she was born on July 20th, 1935 in Lincoln County.
After relocating to Charlotte, Carolyn graduated from West Mecklenburg High School with the class of 1953. She worked at J.P. Stevens for a brief time before accepting a position with Mecklenburg County Vital Records. Primarily handling birth certificates, she enjoyed a long career in the Vital Records office until her retirement.
Carolyn was vacationing with a friend in Ocracoke Island when she met her future husband, William Andrew Jeffers, who was visiting from New York with his good friend. The self-proclaimed country girl and her northern husband were married on September 27th, 1969 at St. James United Methodist Church.
Carolyn loved the ocean and William loved lighthouses; one of their favorite pastimes was visiting all the different lighthouses along the east coast. Carolyn was a devoted wife, and, when they welcomed their son, William Thomas Jeffers, a loving, doting mother as well.
A devout Christian, Carolyn was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Charlotte and was instrumental in their merger with Chadwick United Methodist Church. The newly joined church communities became known as Assurance United Methodist Church where Carolyn remained a dedicated member until her passing. At Assurance, she was a core member of Friendship Sunday School and the Women’s Care Circle.
Carolyn was an avid reader and loved watching tv, especially enjoying reruns on TV Land and gameshows. She was a quiet person and an astute observer of people and the world around her. Quite smart and quick-witted as well, she helped keep her mind sharp by completing countless word searches and crossword puzzles.
Those left to remember Carolyn include her beloved son, William Thomas Jeffers, and an abundance of loving cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Carolyn has been reunited in Heaven with her parents, Thomas and Edna, and her husband, William Andrew Jeffers.
