“Papa Carl”

Carl William Gregory, Sr., 88, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully Friday morning, November 19, 2010 at Sardis Oaks Rehabilitation Center, after a short illness.

Mr. Gregory was born September 7, 1922 in Union (Adamsburg), SC to the late Reuben and Irene Gregory.

Carl was a veteran of World War II, a retiree of Consolidated Freightways, a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and the Bill Campbell Sunday School Class. Also, the Woodlawn Senior Citizens, American Legion Post 380, Grand Lodge AFM of South Carolina and the “Bo jangles’ Biscuit Buddies”.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Marie Fowler Gregory; sisters, Marian G. Kemp and Guynelle G. Howell.

He is survived by his loving, best friend and companion, Mrs. Rachel B. Deen; his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Larry Hagler of Charlotte, NC; his son and daughter-in-law, Carl W. “Bill” Gregory, Jr. and wife, Sophia Gregory of Garden City, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Dennis Cady of Union, SC, Grandchildren, Greg T. Hagler, Ty R. Jones, Kristen and Nicole Gregory and Great Grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emilie Hagler and Zach Davis; Tia, Ty II and Shyann Jones.

Visitation will be held 12pm Monday, November 22, 2010 followed by the funeral service , 1pm at the McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. Mr. Gregory will be laid to rest in Sunset Memory Gardens on Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC.
