Brenda Poe Jones

Brenda was born on September 5, 1944, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was known for her warmth, generosity and the loving spirit she brought to the world.

Brenda fought cancer and beat it. She fought through surgery, chemo, radiation, and terrible side effects from Keytruda. When she was diagnosed with cancer eight years ago, she said she would fight as hard as she could, but she knew she was going to heaven if she lost.

She loved Jesus, her flower garden and all animals, especially her dogs: Pepper, Rusty, Sue, Toby and Skye. She rescued a baby robin that fell from its nest and raised four baby blue birds that their mother had abandoned.

Brenda had a heart for everyone, including the homeless. When Charlotte Urban Ministries started Room in the Inn, she coordinated the program for the first three years at Little Church on the Lane. At family gatherings for holidays and other events, she was the leader for most of her adult life.

Brenda was artistic. Many of her tole painting items are among family members. She did restoration work on antiques for friends. She decorated her home with an elegant touch and always had the most beautiful Christmas trees. She loved to "dig in the dirt", and her gardens were beautiful.

Brenda loved to dance, especially the shag. She loved sitting on the beach with her feet in the ocean. She held many friends and neighbors very dear.

She lived with back pain since her surgery 51 years ago, but few people realized it. During her many treatments for cancer she vowed not to look like a cancer patient. She always had a positive attitude and a smile.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Peyton and Virginia Poe and her brothers, Harold and Steve, who she looked forward to seeing in heaven. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Marion Jones. Her daughter, Kelly Guinn and husband, Greg, who Brenda called "Precious" and granddaughter, Taylor, who was the apple of Brenda's eye. Her son, Scott Jones and wife Susan and their sons, Colin and Brandon. Her sister in law and wife to her late brother, Cathy. Her brother, Phillip Poe, who was always her hero, and his wife, Jeannie. Her sister, Jennifer and husband, David and their children, Rebecca and Ryan. And her beloved dog, Skye.

The loss of Brenda is deeply felt by her family and all those who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on and inspire strength, resilience, generosity, and love in those whose lives she touched.
