Mrs. Betty Jo Harris Hall, 87, formerly of Charlotte, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 in the Pacific Northwest where she relocated eight years ago to be near her daughter and son. She loved North Carolina and believed it to be the best place in the world to live. She missed the sunny South and all her family and friends there.
Born January 25, 1923 in Charlotte, Mrs. Hall was a daughter of the late James Paul Harris and Essie Medlin Harris and was a graduate of Thomasboro High School’s Class of 1940. During WWII, Mrs. Hall worked for Glen L. Martin Defense Plant in Baltimore, MD as a welder on airplanes used in the war. She retired from Dobbs House Restaurants at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport.
A lifelong Methodist, Mrs. Hall was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She is also remembered as a wonderful gourmet cook and for her love of gardening and growing flowers.
Mrs. Hall is survived by her son, Ralph M. Hall of Silverdale, WA; her daughter, Molly Hall Fairchild of Bremerton, WA; a sister, Bobby Lamb of Pineville, NC; and a brother, James Paul Harris of Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Alexander Hall (2001); and two sisters, Mary Frances McCuen and Doris Pierce.
Mrs. Hall’s family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 PM Friday, August 27th at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 2:00 PM in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
