Betty was born on January 26, 1938, to Clarence and Allie Freeman. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 ½ years, Benjamin Leon Canady; daughters, Karen C. Lomax (Phil) of Matthews, NC and Janice Canady of Rock Hill, SC. Betty is also survived by her sister, Doris F. Webb of Denver, NC. She was also the proud grandmother of 4 granddaughters: Lauren Conwell (Bradley), Sara Westbury (Lee), Amanda Lomax and Emily Gilmore (Matthew); as well as 4 great grandchildren: Sophia, Hannah, Aaron and Nico.
Betty was a current member of First Baptist Church of Charlotte, and former member of both Thomasboro Baptist Church and Mulberry Baptist Church. Her dedication to the Lord’s service lasted her entire life as a teacher and choir member. She also served on many committees, as well as music and drama productions.
Betty worked for many years as a pastor’s secretary at Thomasboro Baptist Church, Derita Baptist Church and Mulberry Baptist Church. She retired in 2003.
As a faithful Christian and devoted wife, mother, and friend, Betty will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Freeman and sister, Cecelia Yelton.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 1:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Charlotte; visitation will take place Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church general fund, 301 S Davidson Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.
