I just learned today that Bernice had passed away.  She was a wonderful person.    She was always up for helping out whatever needed to be done with the HOA where she served as a board member, as one of our directors.    Holiday Socials,  Nation Night Out, Picnics, Board Retreats.  You name it and Bernice was there to lend a hand and put in her opinions.   At the Madison Central Park  Rose Garden she was there pulling weeds and helping out.   She was the kind of neighbor and friend you could not complain about!    

I enjoyed working for decades with Bernice at Precinct 50 that voted at Wedgewood.    She would make me laugh pretty much the entire day.   

I had thought about her often the last couple of years and was sorry to learn the news of her passing this am from a neighbor of hers.

What a sweet lady!  She know that I was a Carolina Clown and gave me a little Clown statue that I will always cherish.  She had a great laugh and always enjoyed a good story!  She will be missed by her little group at the Tyvola Senior Center.  J

Bernice was beautiful inside and out.   We shared memories of working in psychiatric nursing and she shared many of her unique nursing experiences at Duke University Hospital.   She was kind and funny,  a true gem.  We will all miss her.

I had the pleasure of  really getting to know Bernice in 2007 when I became a member of The Daughters of the Nile. She took me under her wing and helped me appreciate that wonderful organization for its fraternity and the wonderful work it does for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. She gave me one of her special pendants, and I will always cherish her memory every time I put it on. Bernice was beautiful, elegant, confidant, and full of wit. All the members of Latona #154 will keep her in our hearts, and we will all hold her family in our prayers at this difficult time.

Mike and Mark, we are praying for you and your family at this difficult time. Bernice was such a sweet and friendly neighbor. I also knew her professionally when she worked as an occupational/rehab nurse.  I worked in a surgeon’s office and Bernice would often accompany one of her patients to our office. She was a wonderful nurse! Your mother was a lovely lady and we will miss her.

Bernice was such a loving person and touched so many lives- especially mine.  It is so fitting that she was involved in the Miss America Pageants as she was the epitome of the true American woman and crowned a Queen at that.   She will be truly missed, but having the privilege of knowing Bernice and having her love, laughter and wit touch my life is such a blessing.  May you find comfort knowing that so many of us are truly the better for having Bernice in our lives. 

Aunt Bernice was the first professional working mother I knew and it made a positive impact. Even at a young age I use to think "How does she do it all?".  In addition to working full time and raising 2 children she had a husband who traveled most of the week. She was an active member of several clubs and organizations. Gee, how did she do it?  Her wit was sharp and  if you needed to be put in your place she never hesitated to say so.  However, she was always ready to listen to any problems I had and offered sage advice. But the one quality of hers'  I admired the most was this: If she loved you, you knew it.  I will miss her so much. Love, Deborah

I could write a book on the good times I remember! “After all” I knew her longer than y’all! I remember going to their wedding. Aunt Bernice always picked at me. I was the only grandchild for 7 years! I have fond memories as well. Her favorite thing to do was pick me up by my ears!
It’s so painful for me to realize I can’t come. I am walking with a walker. I can’t possibly drive that far. And no one is available to bring me. This will forever be a scar to my sole.
Y’all have my prayers,condolences and love! We have all been through this enough.
Please understand why I can’t be there! I will be there in my soul! Love and miss you Aunt Bernice!
