Becky Cox Smith

Becky graduated, Class of 1957, from West Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC where she was an outstanding basketball player.

She was raised in faith at McGee Presbyterian Church & after marriage, continued her walk at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church where she established lifelong friendships.

Although she held several secretarial positions in her working career, her most valued calling was that of wife, mother & grandmother. She was an active volunteer with Crisis Assistance Ministries & very involved in her church.

Becky was sweet, loving & amazingly kind to everyone she met or encountered. Her legacy of love & care for people will be carried on in those she touched. Her ability to remain positive in the face of adversity & pain was a tremendous example grace & faith.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, D. Michael Smith. Together they enjoyed trips to the beach, watching the full moon rise over the ocean; trips to the mountains, riding along the Blue Ridge Parkway; NASCAR racing & bluegrass music through the Folk Music Society.

She is also survived by her daughters, Crystal Urwick (Alan) of Clinton, SC; Julie Tucker (Mark) of Waxhaw, NC & Michelle Drury (Joe) of Charlotte, NC. She was “Nanny” to her precious grandchildren, Adrienne, Matthew & Joshua Urwick; Jacob Tucker; Talia, Jason (Mimi), Taylor, Michael & Brandon Drury & great grandson, Gregory Eberhardt. She is also survived by her cherished sister, Gail Hodge (Bill) of Murrells Inlet, SC & sisters-in-love, Doris Cox & Sara Thompson (Dan) of Charlotte, NC; Eleanor McLeod of Sumter, SC & Mollie Smith of Fuquay Varina, NC. Becky is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews & cousins along with their families.

She joins in heaven her precious twin daughters, Neva Lorene & Susan Elaine; also, her parents, Earl Mitchell Cox, Sr. & Macie Linker Cox; brother, Earl Mitchell Cox, Jr.; Parents-in-love Harvey P. Smith, Sr. & Neva Eaker Smith; brothers-in-love, Harvey P. Smith, Jr. & Eugene “Jiggs” McLeod & other beloved extended family.

The family will receive friends from 12 Noon to 1:15pm on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, 1117 South Blvd., Charlotte NC 28203. Following the visitation, a funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:30pm. Immediately following the service there will be a graveside service at Sharon Memorial Park.

The family is incredibly thankful for the entire staff at Aldersgate Asbury Care Center, each one who gave loving care to Becky & became a part of the extended family. Also, the family deeply appreciates the tender care and attention of Hospice & Palliative Care, Charlotte Region.
