She was born January 28, 1930 in Albemarle, North Carolina, daughter of the late Bill and Virginia Hopkins. “Mama Ann” as she was affectionately known, retired from Selwyn Elementary in 1992 after 30 plus years in private and public education in Mecklenburg and Stanly County.
Ann was a committed servant of the Lord, humbly leading her family and impacting her friends with her faith and devotion to Jesus Christ.
Her greatest earthly joy and love of her life was her family. She was married to Cecil Poplin for 58 years before his passing in August 2011. Survivors include, daughter Bronwyn Poplin of Matthews, Bonnie Wooten and husband, Tim, of Indian Land, SC, and grandchildren Grayson, Cecilia, and Jenna Lee. Ann is also survived by her brother, Buddy Hopkins, of Charlotte.
Memorials may be made to Sharon Baptist Church, Charlotte Rescue Mission, or the Humane Society of Charlotte.
The Poplin family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm, Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Sharon Baptist Church, 6411 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC. A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. at Sharon Baptist Church led by Dr. Robbie Page, Senior Minister. Burial will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
