Mrs. Hightower, 88, of Matthews, NC, widow of the late George W. Hightower, entered into God’s grace on Monday, October 1, 2012.
Born October 20, 1923, in Greenville, South Carolina, Orene was the daughter of the late Orren Hewlett Hunt and Annie Lee Scruggs Hunt, also of Greenville. She was also preceded in death by her three sisters: Louise Wood, Elizabeth Waldrop and Jerrye York.
A loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was an excellent cook and an accomplished artist. Her beautiful oil and watercolor paintings decorated the walls of her home, and her family’s homes. Her artistic skills were put to good use at Ivey’s Department Store, where she was a sketch designer.
The Hightower family will greet friends 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Friday, October 5, 2012 at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon. A service to celebrate her life will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel with Father Patrick Hoare, Pastor of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
Orene is survived by sons: Orren H. Hightower of Charlotte, NC and Kenneth W. Hightower and wife, Mary Lou of Simpsonville, SC; daughter, Faye E. Hightower of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren: Juliet P. Stock and husband, Mark of Rock Hill, SC; William C. Potter and wife, Kate of Anchorage, K; Christine L. Wolfe and husband, Gerald of Spencer, IN; Laura A. Potter of Houston TX; Tyler H. Hightower and Maddison Jo Hightower both of Charlotte, NC. Her great-grandchildren are Hannah and Laylon Baucom of Rock Hill; Jack Potter, Madeline Shook, Penelope Wolfe and Mason Stock.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Marjorie Hoover and her family for their care and concern during the last several months. Their friendship has been a blessing.
