Alice James Wilkinson

Charlotte - Alice “Joyce” James Wilkinson, 92, passed away on June 8, 2023. She was born on December 30, 1930 in Charlotte, a daughter of the late Jesse Dwight James and Odessa Foy Curlee James, and beloved wife of her late husband, William Everette Wilkinson Jr.

Joyce attended Harding High School, where she was a cheerleader and met the love of her life, William “Ebb” Wilkinson Jr., her husband of 62 years. They spent many summers dancing on the boardwalk in Myrtle Beach. She attended Limestone College prior to their marriage in 1951. Joyce was a devoted wife, deeply loved mother and adored grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved holidays, the beach, reading, dancing, painting and bird watching. She was an active member of her church and her faith was an inspiration to her family and friends.

Joyce is survived by her four children, Leslie Wilkinson Yusko of Seattle, WA, Catherine Portaro Echols and her husband David of Charlotte, NC, William Steven Wilkinson and his wife Cynthia Webb Wilkinson of Wilmington, NC, Richard Craig Wilkinson of Wilmington, NC, thirteen grand- children and fourteen great-grandchildren.

A special thank you to her wonderful caregiver, Tonya Hope, who is truly an angel on earth.

A private family service celebrating Joyce’s life was held June 15, 2023 in Wilmington, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sharon Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC and St. Andrews Memorial Garden in Wilmington, NC.
