Alice loved to sing. At the age of 4, she would sit on her front stoop and sing, In the Garden. She sang all throughout her school years being a member of the Accodets in High school where she went on a 16-state tour singing in schools, churches, etc. She continued singing in church choirs beginning at Allen Street Baptist then Shamrock Drive Baptist, Grace Crossing, and Bethel Church of Midland. Alice was honored after years of singing with the Charlotte Choral Society to be the Angel at the top of the tree in 1986. Not only did she sing at many weddings and funerals, but she also sang at her daughters’ weddings.
After raising her three daughters, she went back to school to complete her nursing degree and was a cardiac care nurse at Carolinas Medical Center and New Hanover Medical Center. While at CMC, she was honored to be one of the nurses on the team that helped prep the first woman for the first heart transplant. Throughout her life, Alice was always volunteering at church, leading many youth trips, mission trips, and becoming the minister of youth then minister to senior adults at Shamrock Dr. Baptist.
Her greatest joy was being Nana to eight grandchildren whom she loved dearly, and they all loved her. She was ecstatic to be present at the birth of each and every one except Lacey who couldn’t wait until she returned from the beach. As a loving Nana, she gave most of the grandchildren their first bath, teaching her girls how to do it well.
Alice loved her Lord all her life and says that each of the churches she was a member of, helped her to be a better Christian.
