Nancy Collins Butterfield, 85, of Charleston died peacefully in hospice care Friday morning, March 25, 2016 after a brief illness. Born in Charleston, West Virginia on March 3, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John Townsend Collins, his late wife Marion Ketchum Collins, and sister of the late Patricia Collins Fellows. Nancy grew up in Charleston and Lewisburg, graduating from Lewisburg High School in 1949 and then attended West Virginia University, where she enjoyed being an active member of the Pi Beta Phi fraternity. After marrying John Gordon Butterfield in 1952, she graduated with a teaching degree from Memphis State University. Nancy was a wonderful homemaker and active member of her community for many years. She served as president of the West Virginia Optometric Association Women’s Auxiliary, where she established a scholarship fund for West Virginia optometry school students. Nancy was a top producing real estate agent and a member of the Kanawha Valley Board of Realtors. Above all, Nancy loved her family and her pets; she was a lifelong animal lover and advocate. Her hobbies included building miniature dioramas, reading and crossword puzzles. The WVU Mountaineers never had a more dedicated fan. Nancy is survived by her three children, Scott Collins Butterfield (Donna Good Butterfield), Jennifer Butterfield Eaddy (David C. Eaddy) and Amy Butterfield Ward (Thomas F. Ward), grandchildren Matthew Scott Butterfield, David Alexander Eaddy, Samuel Glade Eaddy, Isabel Collins Eaddy, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Ward and Jennifer Grace Ward. A funeral service to Honor the Life of Nancy C. Butterfield will be held at 11:00 a.m, Monday, March 28, 2016 at Bartlett Burdette Cox Funeral Home, 513 Tennessee Avenue, Charleston with Dr. Rev. Archie Snedegar officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 27th from 5 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
