Scott David Marter was born December 18, 1956. He was the first born to Walter and Rena Marter and was adored by his loving parents. He graduated from North Augusta High School and he attended the University of South Carolina. Scott was an avid Gamecocks fan all of his life. He was the team founder and member of the USC Waterskiing Team.
He competed on a semi-pro waterskiing tour and he loved all things related to the water and all watersports. He was very involved with the Lake Murray Watersports. Scott was happiest when he was “putting around” his beloved Lake Murray or waterskiing. You name it, Scott could do it ~ jump, boom, trick, barefoot. He taught waterskiing to anyone who wanted to learn and he was the most patient instructor. He wouldn’t give up on you until he got you up (the 3rd time or 33rd time!), as he loved to share his love of waterskiing with others.
Scott had the biggest smile and even bigger heart! He loved to entertain and he provided his guests with an abundance of friendship, fellowship, fabulous food and fun. He was the Chef at the Dockside Restaurant on Lake Murray for decades, where he made lifelong friends.
To know Scott was to love Scott! His family and friends were blessed with his presence and will miss him dearly. He left his mark on our hearts and we are all better as a result of him in our lives.
Scott is survived by his lifetime partner, Lori Lentz; his younger brother, Brian Marter (Patty); his youngest brother, Wayne Marter (Margaret); his niece, Brooke Marter; his nephews, Will Marter, Brian Jacob Marter, and Ryan Marter; and his cousin, Nancy Duffy (Bill). He was predeceased by his doting parents, Walter and Rena Marter. He is also survived by a multitude of friends who were more like family to him (The Crook Family, J.C., Ryan, etc.).
Scott passed away on July 29th, 2024, from a brief but emboldened illness. As a result, there is a big hole in many hearts today that Scott’s presence previously filled. Please join us in a Celebration of Life for our beloved, Scooter, on Saturday, August 3, 2024, beginning at 2:00pm, at the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – Chapin Chapel, to share memories of his love, laughter, life and legacy.
