

Ronald John Moffatt passed away on March 22, 2025, at the age of 83 in Sun Lakes, AZ, surrounded by family and friends. Ron, also known as Coach, was born on March 9, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio to William and Verlie Moffatt. The family moved to Detroit, Michigan, and lived there for over sixty years.
Ron dedicated his life to his family, career, volunteerism, and love of sports. He was a teacher, counselor, high school principal, and coach for over thirty years, receiving numerous awards at each level. Ron was very active in sports participating on the Eastern Michigan baseball team and belonging to the alumni organization. Along with being a high school and college baseball coach, he was a professional baseball scout and sports official. He has inducted into the Michigan High School Hall of Fame for coaches, sports officials, and the Catholic league.
Ron moved to Sun Lakes, AZ in 2005 after traveling back and forth from Blenheim, Ontario in the summer and for seasonal breaks. He refurbished and loved his cottage on the beach on Lake Erie. Ron was a member of Kiwanis International, an active member of St. Steven’s Catholic Church of Sun Lakes, a member of the Knights of Columbus (Fourth Degree), and volunteered time with Neighbors Who Care, St. Vincent DePaul, and St. Mary’s Food Bank in Chandler.
He is survived by his brother, William, children Kimberly, Kelly, and Scott, grandchildren Sam, Jack, Annie, and Peter and beloved friend, Karen Shafer. Donations can be given to the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control where he adopted Kooler, his wonderful dog.
