Lee, as he was called, would continue to live in Holland, Michigan until graduation and acceptance into the U.S. Army. He attended Ventura Baptist Church and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age under the ministry of D.J. DePree. Mr. DePree would be a good mentor and encouragement to Lee.
While stationed in Hokkaido Japan, Lee began corresponding with Karen Jacobson. After his discharge from the Army, the two married in March, 1968. They shared almost 52 years of marriage.
Lee counted it a great blessing to be the father and Papa to Sharon (Greg Hewitt) and their son Gavin.
He is survived by all three as well as brothers James Dekker, Peter Dekker (Stacy), Mike Dekker (Lori) and sisters Fran Walling and Pat Hansen (Mike). He was preceded in death by his wife Karen, parents Bruce and Harriett, and brothers Bill Dekker and Andy Dekker.
What makes a man? What legacy is there? There is no better response than that of Luke 12:15c - "A man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." The truly good life is living in a relationship with God and doing His work. Lee's life was an offering before God. Il Timothy 4:6b-7 -
"The time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight." His reward is with Christ in Heaven.
