She was born on April 12, 1931, in Carupano, Venezuela and was the youngest of 5 children. She played frequently as a little girl at a Baptist mission station where Amel and Leila May Anderson were missionaries. When Mr. and Mrs. Anderson returned to the U.S. on a furlough, they asked Georgina’s mom (Maria Miranda) if she could go with them. She accompanied them to the U.S. on two occasions, the second time in 1938. In 1939 with the start of World War II and Mr. Anderson becoming ill with malaria they were unable to return to Venezuela. While they tried several times to arrange for her to go back, she ultimately stayed in the U.S. and was raised by the Anderson’s as their daughter. Georgina grew up in the Los Angeles area and attended Pasadena College where she met her husband Ogdon. They were married in 1953. Her first child Richard was born in 1956, and her daughter Leila was born in 1957. In 1960 they moved to San Bernardino, California where Ogdon became an ordained minister in the Spanish Nazarene church with Georgina serving beside him. In 1969, they moved to Chandler where she served as the pastor’s wife for almost 50 years. In 1977, she earned her bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in education in 1989. Georgina also worked for the General Learning Corporation, Head Start and was a long-term first grade teacher with Chandler Public Schools. During this time, she also served on the Board of Trustees for Point Loma College and taught a variety of adult learning classes. After retiring Georgina traveled extensively with her husband throughout Europe and Israel. She is survived by her two children Richard (Brenda), Leila (Tony), and her granddaughter Michelle (Sean). Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she impacted and touched throughout her 93 years of life. We were beyond blessed to have her in our lives, and she will be badly missed by her family, friends, and church congregation.
A funeral service will occur Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Spanish Church of the Nazarene, 191 S. California St, Chandler, AZ. Georgina will be laid to rest at Valley of the Sun Cemetery, 10940 E Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler, AZ. Immediately afterwards, there will be a reception held at Valley of the Sun Mortuary.
