Don Eugene Roberts

Gene was born November 17, 1928 in Garland, TN to Ashley and Murna (Roe) Roberts. He

spent his childhood and young adulthood in the same region of Tennessee, marrying his high

school sweetheart, Mary Elizabeth (Jobe) in 1947. Blessed with two daughters in the years that

followed, the family of four moved to Chandler, AZ in 1956 to pursue agricultural ventures. Gene

had a variety of vocations, many related to the cotton industry, including independent custom

harvesting, managing of Chandler Gin Co., and sales for Delta & Pine Land Company.

Apart from his business endeavors, Gene enjoyed camping, fishing, dancing, golf and travel.

The family enjoyed spending time playing varieties of board and card games. He and Elizabeth

often kept a running score of their competitive gin rummy streaks.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years. He is survived and remembered by

daughters Brenda Roberts and Barbara (Fred) Roberts-Hartman, grandchildren Doug (Kristen)

Foster and Liz (Mitch) Rohs, and great-grandchildren Reid and Larkyn Foster, Cassidy (Sam)

Gengenbach, Seth and Tristan Rohs. He will also be missed by many extended family, friends,

neighbors and acquaintances.

Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 at Valley of the Sun Mortuary and

Cemetery, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Rd. A viewing will take place from 10:00-10:45am.

Memorial service will begin at 11:00 am, Dignity Memorial building (Sunbird Room), followed by

graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or

American Heart Association.
