Alice E. Bates, age 93, of Mesa, AZ died Thursday, 2 February 2012 at the Enrose Estates Assisted Living Home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Alice was born 25 January 1919 in Ohio. She was the youngest of six children born to Ellis T. Carter and wife Mary Carter of Quaker City, Ohio. On 17 August 1935 she married Alfred Walton Bates. Alice was preceded in death by her husband Alfred, her parents; three brothers, Mansel, Russell, Harold, and two sisters Wilma, and Martha.
She was a mother, homemaker, and employed as a nurse’s aide and an upholsterer. In later years she enjoyed painting. Alice was rightfully proud of a large Grand Canyon scene she painted, as well as a variety of other types of paintings.
Alice is survived by her two sons and one daughter. Alfred W. Bates and wife Linda of Cibolo, TX; Ellis E. Bates and wife Elva of Valrico, FL; and Nancy C. Benson of Oakridge, OR. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews living throughout the US.
A memorial service with closed casket will be held at the Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery, Chandler, Arizona at 4 PM on Saturday, 4 February 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to your local Hospice.
