Roger Gerald Sims was born November 9, 1954 in New Orleans, LA to Roger and Marjorie Sims. He passed away February 29th in Coos Bay after a lengthy illness. Roger was raised in Arabi, Louisiana just outside New Orleans, and moved to Coos Bay with his family in 1994 after finishing dental school. He was well known for his outgoing and positive personality. He was Dr. Roger Sims during the day and often was in plays at Little Theater on the Bay at night. As his son Justin said, “I will always strive to be as positive, kind hearted, and forgiving as my father, holding steadfast in my faith even in the face of adversity as he did.” Roger is survived by his children, Justin and Joy Sims; brothers, Steve and Bradley Sims; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Marjorie Sims; and sister, Debra Sims. He was well loved and will be deeply missed by his family and by all those whose lives he touched. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, March 19th from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a celebration of his life beginning at 1:00PM in the funeral home chapel. He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
