Mary Claire deSambourg Wyatt passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at the age of 83. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some way throughout her very memorable life. She was preceded in death by her parents John & Clara Burns; her siblings John Burns and her twin Marvin Burns; her beloved first husband Warren Edward deSambourg of Braithwaite, LA; her devoted second husband Hugh A. Wyatt of Silverhill, AL; her great granddaughter Evangeline Joy deSambourg, and her son-in-law Bobo Hand. Mary is survived by her children Charles deSambourg (Lydia), Yvonne deSambourg Hand, David deSambourg (Whitney) and Rich deSambourg. Proud grandmother of Holly Jo deSambourg, Heidi deSambourg Bernard, Hannah deSambourg, Logan Hand, Savannah Hand, Emma deSambourg, Gabe deSambourg, Hayden deSambourg, Grace deSambourg and Jay deSambourg. Great grandmother of Gaige Bernard, Grant Bernard, Jett Bernard, Jaxx Bernard and Harmony Jo deSambourg. Sister of Carey Burns and Beverly Burns Musson. Mary is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Mary was born in New Orleans, LA on February 4, 1940 and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish. She was a member of Chalmette Church of Christ since its beginning in 1965 where she taught baby Bible class for 50 years. Mary Claire worked as a homemaker along with helping her husband on their orange grove in Braithwaite, LA. In 1985, she continued her career as an Administrative Assistant at Verges Architect & Associates for 25 years. After she retired, she was active in the Silverhill Alabama community and a caregiver for her second husband during his illness.
She found pleasure in the details of everyday life, caring deeply for others and taking good care of her Jay. Mary will always be remembered for her loyalty to her family, her dedication to her Lord & her church, her caring and loving spirit, her laughter, and spoiling the grandchildren. She was a wonderful example of what it means to care for others and will be deeply missed by us all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend an evening visitation to be held at CHALMETTE CHURCH OF CHRIST, 200 De La Ronde, Chalmette, LA on Friday, February 10th from 5:00PM – 8:00PM and again on Saturday, February 11th from 9:00AM – 10:00AM, followed by a celebration of Mary’s life beginning at 10:00AM. She will be laid to eternal rest with her beloved husband Warren and family in Rose Hill Cemetery, Obion, TN.
