James "Jimmy Joe" Phillips

James Joseph “Jimmy Joe” Phillips, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, in Tylertown, Mississippi. He was the loving father of Alice Curtis (William) and Peggy Thibodeaux (Scott); devoted grandfather of James Curtis, Darrin Curtis, Matthew Bilich Jr., and Stephen Bilich; great-grandfather of Amberlyn Mayfield, Bryce Curtis, James Curtis Jr., and Michael Curtis; great-great-grandfather of two great-great-grandchildren; and longtime companion of Rhea Estopinal. He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Georgette Phillips, and by his parents, the late Ira James Phillips, and Barney Phillips.

Jimmy Joe was a proud veteran of the United States Army, and dutifully served his country in the Korean War. He worked for many years at American Can Company as a forklift operator, and enjoyed traveling, hunting, and fishing in his spare time. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, husband, and friend, and will be eternally missed by all those he leaves behind.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue Street, in Chalmette, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. A funeral service will be held in his memory at 1:30 PM. He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens, with military honors.
