Catherine "Genny" Genevieve Jeffries passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at the age of 76. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she touched in some way throughout her very memorable life.
Genny, born in New Orleans, LA, was a remarkable woman whose spirit touched everyone around her. Alongside her adoring husband of 57 years, John, who she loved immensely, she pursued her education with passion, earning her Master's degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary after attending Mississippi College. From there, she faithfully served alongside her husband in his ministry, providing support to the LBC and offering Christian counseling services to the Northshore through their counseling practice, "Stillwaters."
Known for her keen sense of humor, Genny brought joy and laughter to those who knew her. Also a lover of all things beautiful, Genny found delight in following current fashionable trends and especially her flowers. Despite her black thumb, she absolutely adored her flowers during the short time they flourished while under her care. Her creativity shone through her hobbies, including ceramics, sewing and quilting and she had a keen eye for the latest fashions.
Genny had a deep love for movies and entertainment, often immersing herself in captivating stories. She also enjoyed the playful subversion of traditional parenting, occasionally allowing her children to skip school to share in the excitement of her favorite soap operas, especially the climactic moments that had her on the edge of her seat.
Always curious, she was a lifelong learner. Genny was also a talented singer and a devoted supporter of her husband’s ministry. Her study of the Bible and love for the Lord was evident in her daily life, as was her commitment to her family. As a parent, she embraced unconventional ideas and often bent traditional rules, marching to the beat of her own drum.
Genny will be remembered for her loving spirit, love of beauty and learning, good nature and generous heart she shared with those around her. Her legacy of laughter, love, and creativity will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Rest in peace, dear Genny. Your profound legacy and the wonderful memories you've created are too deep and wide to be captured in these few lines. Your spirit will shine bright in all the ways we will forever remember you.
