It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many. Beverly Nunez Ragas, passed away on October 21, 2023 at the age of 79. She was the loving wife of the late James R. Ragas. Caring mother to two sons, Michael Martin, Jr. (Pamela), Dean J. Martin (Michelle), and her daughter, Michelle K. Martin; grandmother of Dean Martin, Jr. (Holly), Amy Martin Fredrickson (Kevin), Kimberly Bollinger, Beverly Bollinger, Danielle Martin (Allie), Drew Martin (April), Dana Martin Stitt (Phillip), and Eric Martin (Brittany); great-grandmother to eleven great-grandchildren; sister to Florita Hyde and sister-in-law to Sandra Nunez. Beverly is preceded in death by her parents, Adam “DaDa” Nunez and Violet Everhardt; her son, Jimmy L. Ragas; and her siblings, Barbara Jones, and Curtis Nunez.
Born on February 21, 1944, in New Orleans, LA, she was a dedicated and passionate woman. She started her career as a hair stylist. She was a culinary virtuoso who served as the head chef at Angelo’s Restaurant, B&V Steak House, and proudly owned her own establishment, Big Bev's Restaurant. Her culinary skills delighted countless palates and brought joy to all who dined at her establishments. Her dedication extended beyond the restaurant world. Beverly also lent her talents to the local school cafeteria, where her warmth and delicious meals nourished both young minds and bodies. She was a dedicated newspaper carrier for The Times-Picayune for over 30 years where she ran one of the largest dealerships entrusted to a single dealer. Her commitment to this role demonstrated her unwavering work ethic and community spirit. She was also a Realtor for Gertrude Gardner.
Outside of work, she enjoyed an active and vibrant life. She was an avid softball player who took home countless MVP awards through most of the years she played. She was also an enthusiastic member of a women's bowling league. Her competitive spirit and camaraderie with fellow athletes enriched her life and the lives of those around her. To all she was lovingly known as “Big Bev”. Beverly was a loving mother and cherished her family dearly. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world, and she nurtured them with love, care, and endless support. She will be greatly missed but her memories will live with us forever.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, October 27, 2023 from 9:00AM- 11:00AM. A funeral will begin at 11:00AM. Burial will follow in ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL GARDENS
