Perry, as he preferred to be called, passed away on October 6, 2023 at his residence in Centreville, AL.
He was born and raised in Lawley, Alabama and he later attended Bibb County High School. He worked as a supervisor at US Steel. He was known to be a hard worker. Many would seek his guidance, knowing him as a steward leader throughout the community who always was glad to help them.
Perry loved to farm. He enjoyed working his plots of Alabama soil with his children and grandkids, and he gladly shared his bountiful harvests of black-eyed peas, okra, butter beans and more with everyone he knew. His efforts nourished bodies, souls and minds.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Joyce D. Collins; his children, Debbie Grissett (Mike), Tom Collins (Beth), Jim Collins (Laura); his grandchildren, Drew Collins (Lena), Kristina Collins, Brayden Collins (Erica Kirsch), Julie Grissett, Katie Grissett, Maria Grissett; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Anne Collins and Noah Collins; and extended family Justin Poole (Allie), Anna Grace Herren, and Andrew Herren.
Perry was preceded in death by his parents, Moody and Alvis Collins, his sisters, Kathleen Caver and Evelyn Headley, and his brother, James Collins.
The visitation service will be held at Centreville Baptist Church on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 12 PM with the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM. Perry will be laid to rest at Pineland Memorial Park in Centreville, Alabama
