Deborah Kay Owings, 47 passed away at her home on March 4, 2021. Deborah was born June 18, 1973, the first child to Tom and Judy Owings, three weeks after the destructive Brent tornado. She was preceded in death by her mother, Judy Owings Calderwood and her grandparents, Dr. W.J.B. and Lena Mae Owings and John and Vietta Beal. She is survived by her father Dr. Tom Owings, whom she lived with, of Brent, her brother, Greg (Robin) Owings and Dylan and Hannah, of Birmingham, and a host of family and friends.
Deborah grew up in Brent, Alabama and graduated from Bibb County High School in 1991. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Alabama in Hotel/Restaurant Management in 1995. She was employed at Olive Garden Restaurant in Hoover, Alabama. She was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide Football fan and enjoyed tailgating at all the home games in Tuscaloosa. She loved her animals and always had a household pet or two, including an aquarium, a dove, several guinea pigs and always a dog, most recently “Bailey” an 8 pound Chihuahua mix. She will be sorely missed by her Dad and Bailey.
A private burial will be held at Bethel Cemetery, Brent, Alabama and a memorial service held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to: Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 301, Brent, AL 35034.
