Susan Louise Kintzley

Susan was born in Seattle, WA on Nov. 2, 1942 to James L. Elder and Louise Pauwels Elder. She attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and graduated from Blanchet High School in 1960. Sue enrolled at St. Francis X. Cabrini Hospital School of Nursing in Seattle, WA, graduating in 1963 as a Registered Nurse. She worked briefly for a medical clinic and then for a private physician in Seattle.

In July of 1964, Susan married William P. Kintzley of Centralia, WA. They established a home in Olympia, where for the next 30 years she worked both full-time and part-time at St. Peter Hospital. Immediately following retirement, Susan and her husband William spent two years in Ghana, West Africa as Peace Corps volunteers. They returned to Washington and moved to Lopez Island in the San Juans, where they lived for 17 years. Her last place of residence was in Rochester, WA.

Outside of her vocation, Sue was very active in her free time. Alongside being an excellent mother and homemaker, she volunteered her time in hospice, in home support programs, and in a variety of activities for her church. Sue enjoyed travelling to other states and other countries, various types of needlework, many kinds of puzzles, and she was an avid reader.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents James and Louise Elder, her younger sister Donna Elder Seppa, and an infant daughter Sarah Elizabeth Kintzley.

Susan is survived by her husband William Kintzley; her younger brother James Elder; her daughters Kathleen Carlson (Fred), Margaret Burley (Craig), Patricia Shuberg (Jim), and Sharon Taylor (Brad); her ten grandchildren, and her four great grandchildren.

After living for 17 years with the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s disease, Susan died on June 29, 2023 at the age of 80.

There will be a funeral mass for Susan at 11 a.m. on July 21, 2023 at St. Peter Church (149 Keithahn St S, Tenino, WA 98589.) The mass will be followed by a graveside service at Claquato Cemetery (142 Stearns Rd, Chehalis, WA 98532) at 1 p.m.
