Her family moved to Amery, Wis., in 1943 when her father took over management of the Amery Telephone Company. She graduated from Amery high School in 1950 and Polk County Teachers College. She taught all eight grades at Pine Hill School and Beaver Brook.
She met Wally Lundeen January, 1952 and they were married at Congregational Church in Amery on Nov. 6, 1954. Carol adjusted to farm life, quickly learning the basics, such as in someone leaves a gate open the cows will get out. Wally and Carol traveled widely in the west and moved to Atwater, Calif., where she taught 4th grade for two years. She was baptized and they joined the Methodist church in Atwater.
Carol later helped in Wally’s TV shop. A lady on a service call told Wally she heard a man named Harry Holt had brought over Korean orphans. The next day Carol was filling out the paper work to adopt. She became a loving, caring mother of three girls and a wife of 58 years.
In 1945 Carol started a pen pal relationship with a girl in Norway. They wrote for 66 years. She played piano at church for some 40 years and taught Sunday school as long and was the Sunday school superintendent for several years as well.
She cared for her mother-in-law and devoted her life looking for people that needed help. Some people referred to her as the “blueberry lady” because of our little patch. She enjoyed picking berries. She also enjoyed her family and trips to Wisconsin. Carol was a strict mother and grandmother but filled with love for each one. Grandson, Chase, said it well when the family was sitting around her bed. He looked around at each of us and said, “If it weren’t for this little lady, none of us would even be here.” Yes, we all owe everything to grandma, our lives, our faith and our salvation through Jesus Christ.
Carol leaves behind her husband, Wally, daughters, Kim Wallace, Terry (Steve) Buffington-Ahlsten and Nancy (Ken) Shepard, grandchildren, Jason, Chase and Chelsey Buffington, Jamie Shepard and Olivia Wallace.
A memorial service will be Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Adna Evangelical Church in Adna Wash.
